Corrections

A rules site that will not correct itself is worse than no rules site.

Reporting an error

If a page here misstates a rule, cites a superseded interpretation, or describes one state’s practice as if it were universal, tell us. Include the page URL and, if you have it, the rule reference. Contact details are on the contact page. Reports from working officials go to the front of the queue.

How we handle it

  • Factual error in a rule statement — corrected as soon as it is verified, with a dated correction note at the foot of the page saying what was wrong and what it now says.
  • Rule change — not a correction. The page is updated and its reviewed date advances; the change is described in the page’s rule-change note.
  • A page first published before 2020 — the body text is never rewritten. A dated editor’s note is added above it.
  • Anything affecting a named person — handled first and fastest.

Correction record

This section lists every correction we have issued, newest first. It is empty because the current desk has not yet issued one — not because corrections are omitted. Each entry will carry the date, the page and what changed.
